Q. What is the organizational structure of Great Hearts Online Private?

Great Hearts Online Private is a nonprofit, 501(c) 3 organization operated by a new division under the Great Hearts America umbrella.

Q. What are the student testing requirements?

A.

There are no testing requirements to attend Great Hearts Online Private. We will administer thoughtfully selected assessments in the Fall to identify scholar’s learning strengths, needs, and level for intervention, reading group placement, and support. Results will be available for parents to review.

Q. Is Great Hearts Online Private School accredited?

A.

Private schools do not need to be accredited in Texas. While we won’t be accredited in the 21-22 school year, we will pursue accreditation for future years. The school not being accredited will not have implications for students. Our courses are well-aligned with the State of Texas for high school credit and we have a fully-aligned TEKS curriculum. For example, our 8th grade Algebra course receives high school credit.

Q. What is covered in the cost of tuition?

For the full-time program, tuition covers certain SPED services and a Scholar Success Kit. Families are required to purchase/provide Classics to Keep, a laptop, school uniforms, and supplies for their student(s).

For the part-time program, tuition provides access to courses, teachers, and community. Families are required to purchase/provide a Scholar Success Kit, Classics to Keep, a laptop, school uniforms, and supplies for their student(s).

Q. May I enroll my child(ren) after school starts?

A.

Yes. Students who apply after the start of school will begin school on the first or second Monday after their enrollment is complete.

Q. What are the daily schedules?

A.

Q. What impact does attending Great Hearts Online Private have on my application or waitlist status with a Great Hearts brick-and-mortar charter school?

A.

One does not impact the other as Great Hearts Online Private is not part of the Great Hearts charter in Texas. They are completely separate.

Q. Does attending Great Hearts Online Private provide my child with transfer priority to another Great Hearts academy in Texas?

A.

No. Transfer priority is a benefit of being within attending of of the Great Hearts Texas charter schools. As a private, tuition-based school, Great Hearts Online is not part of the Great Hearts Texas charter.

Q. Are scholarships available?

A.

We are working to get philanthropic support to build out a scholarship program. Unfortunately at this time, all we are able to offer is a 20% discount for full time program families who qualify for low income.

Q. Do you provide SPED services?

A.

For full time students, we offer certain SPED services for those who already have an IEP or 504 in place. We do not provide SPED services for part time students.

Q. What happens if State funding comes through to support GH Online as a public charter school?

A.

This will be dependent on the specific legislation language that passes in Texas and Texas Education Agency’s rules related to that legislation.
